WHALE WATCHING TRIPS -
Gray whales migrate annually from the chilling bays of Alaska to give
birth in Baja's Pacific coast lagoons during the months of January thru
March. From small skiffs (called "pangas") you drift between the
families of whales in tranquil lagoons surrounded by warm white sand dunes.
At birth the babies, while giants themselves, are curious as any
child. Be nearby when they spy hop to observe a world above the waves.
To hear the whales breathe and follow the mist of their spray evokes a sense
of wonder. The mangrove-studded lagoons offer calm waters for a great day
of whale watching.
4 night 5 day: A
sample itinerary for a 4-night/5-day stay during whale watching season could
be as follows. (there is no set minimum or max night required, stay is
totally flexible)
Day 1: arrive at this peaceful resort
along the quiet shores of the Marine Sanctuary. Already you decide 4 nights
isn't enough. Guests gather around the pool for complimentary happy hour and
sunsets to be remembered for a lifetime.
Day 2: See more of Baja as your ground transportation takes you
90 minutes across the peninsula to the Pacific coast to the famous
birthing lagoons. Board a small panga (native skiff) for an intimate 3 hour
boat trip through the family pods of whales. After the boat
excursion you will visit the spectacular sand dunes. Resort will pack sack
lunches (included) or you can purchase local treats at the seashore. This
warm white sand is a postcard moment of seamless undulating landscape.
Enough of a reason in itself for the visit.
Day 3: Take advantage of the resort activities: kayak or snorkel
from the resort's sandy beach, hike, horseback ride, bird watch or relax in
your hammock on your individual terrace. Certified scuba divers can visit
the underwater Marine Sanctuary (added costs).
Day 4: Take a guided hike into an impressive canyon where the
forces of nature have carved sheer walls of stone into art like patterns.
Trees defy gravity as they protrude horizontal from crevices in the stone
walls. Bird calls echo off the inner strata. Hire a boat and take a Marine
safari at sea.
Day 5: Finish that roll of film as the sunrise hits the purple
mountain walls or go stroll along the beach. Enjoy breakfast on the
terrace around the pool. Exchange addresses with new friends you've made.
Off to the airport with return plans already in your head.

The Gray Whales are very open and friendly with visitors. These
intelligent beings live on the Pacific side of the Baja Peninsula for
part of the year. WHALE WATCHING TRIPS - Jan

Additional opportunity:
There are certain species of whales living year round in the
bay of the resort. Boat excursions to see whales, dolphin and other
marine life can be scheduled on site at an hourly rate, $40 & up per
person. Plan a beach drop at "Honeymoon Cove" where the boat will leave
you with umbrellas, picnic and a cooler for the afternoon. |
