Grapevine Canyon Ranch
in the Dragoon Mountains, Arizona

Wild and rugged, in the heart of Apache territory, the ranch lies at the foot of the Dragoon Mountains some 85 miles from Tucson. The owners strive to offer guests an atmosphere reminiscent of a more unhurried time, and an interest in the remnants of the Old West which surround the ranch: Fort Bowie, Chochise’s Stronghold and Boothill Cemetery in Tombstone. Horseback riding is the main emphasis.
Well-trained quarter horses will take you on trails through a country of ever changing beauty, to the rugged Dragoon Mountains and abandoned mining camps, old Apache lookout points, deserted ghost towns and old burial grounds, along mountain tops and ridges with views of seventy miles in several directions.
Rides are divided according to the ability of the rider. Groups are kept small. There are mini-clinics each week for a charge. The wranglers also give lessons at no charge to guests.
In May and November, good riders intent on cowboying can spend their days in the saddle helping work cattle.
The appeal of the ranch lies in its mix of modern guest ranch comforts and old-time western activities.

Map of the ranch

The ranch is famous for its riding program of trail rides, seasonal cattle work, riding lessons, horseback games and all-day adventure rides, for which riders and horses are transported to the trail head in the forest wilderness.
There are also history rides to abandoned ghost towns and old Fort Bowie as well as a horseback outing to the fabulous Chiricahua National Monument, the "Wonderland of Rocks." ($60 extra for trailering the horses)
Dragoon Mountains Ranch is a perfect intimate family and corporate ranch retreat, with an international clientele, and emphasis on quiet, personalized service. One European couple summed the ranch up best: "As children we dreamt it, as adults we have lived it at this ranch."
The ranch owners, Eve and Gerry Searle, enjoy meeting their guests who come from all over the world, many returning year after year. They are assisted by a first class staff, whose aim is to make each guest’s vacation a special occasion to remember always.
