Survey Peak to Granite Basin
7-Day Pack Trip
August 14-20, 2007 (#1)
August 27-September 2, 2007 (#2)
DAY 2
Take your pick of day rides. Climb high to the top of Forellen Peak in
Teton National Park and look down into Owl Canyon, or ride along Berry
Creek to the shores of Jackson Lake if you like. Or for a more mellow
day, venture to the top of Survey Peak for enormous mountain views.
Riding time: All day
DAY 3
We'll move to our next campsite in the Bitch Creek drainage - Hidden
Corrals. While riding the ridge below Survey we'll look down into the
headwaters of South Boone from a narrow, cliffy trail. From there we'll drop
into Grizzly Creek, the north fork of Bitch Creek, Carrot Ridge to the south
fork trail. Ride along the narrows to camp. There's plenty of feed and water
for the horses, and for the daring, a few cold swimming holes. Try your hand
at fishing in streams throughout the meadow.
Riding time: Approx 6 hrs
DAY 4
Start off with a leisurely breakfast cooked over the camp fire. We'll day
ride on a high and rocky trail that tops out at serene Camp Lake. Enjoy
fishing or ride to even higher ground and picnic on a perch above the
canyon. A number of day rides are available from this campsite. Riding
time: All day
DAY 5
We'll break camp, ride to the head of Bitch Creek, over Dead Horse Pass into
the head of the Badger Canyon drainage. From here we've a couple of campsite
choices, one being to a high camp behind the Crow's Nest or another about 3
miles down stream to our Badger site. Riding time: Approx. 5 hours
DAY 6
Depending on which campsite we stay in, we'll enjoy either day riding to
Rammel Mountain or to the ""Divide" between Teton Park and the Jedediah
Smith Wilderness. Rammel Mountain, an easier day, offers some great high
country and a beautiful view of the Tetons. Our Crow's Nest campsite offers
a trailride to the 'Divide"where we can also enjoy views of the Tetons,
Teton Basin and Teton National Park. Or we can fish Green Lakes. It's all up
to you! Riding time: All day
DAY 7
On the last day we have three choices. Ride from camp around the Crow's Nest
and down Dry Ridge to the barn enjoying spectacular views of the range, or
drop down into Badger again and ride the canyon to the barn, or ride back up
towards the divide, through Green Lakes basin to the North Leigh trailhead.
Anyone one of these choices offers a great finish to the perfect trip.
Riding time: Approx. 5 hours.
