Sample Itinerary
DAY 1 Saddle up and ride from the North Leigh trailhead along Tin Cup Creek or from the Teton Ridge Ranch barn. As we cross the open meadows, you'll want to stop and admire breath-taking views of the Tetons. We'll make our way down a steep spot on the trail but the reward is an exciting view of this spectacular canyon. From the ridge separating South Leigh Canyon from Granite Basin, we'll drop down into our secluded campsite at Dead Duck Lake. The horses love to graze the lush meadows near camp.
DAY 2 We'll saddle up and day ride to the divide. You can stop along the way to take pictures in the wildflower meadows and fish in the high mountain lakes. Enjoy a relaxing lunch as you look over into Jackson's Hole and Teton Basin. And, if you are game try hiking to the top of Little's Peak.
DAY 3 Our day trip today will take us over into South Leigh canyon to view the peaks from the ridge below Fred's Mountain. We will experience some steeps trails but our views will offer upclose views of the Grand Teton. An absolutely beautiful day!
DAY 4 This day perhaps we'll venture back down the Tin Cup trail but cross over the creek and do a loop ride on Beard's Mountain.
DAY 5 Our last day, after breakfast we'll pack our gear and head home through Green Lakes. Enjoy a beautiful picnic along side this beautiful high mountain lake. Our last hour enjoy the views of Teton Basin as we leisurely ride home to our original starting point. A perfect day for the completion of this pack trip!
Survey Peak to Granite Basin
7-Day Pack Trip
Day 1 Meeting in the morning. From the barn we'll drive to South Boone Creek trailhead. The trail gradually climbs along the creek, eventually looking into the head of the canyon. We'll make camp near Survey Peak. The horses love this private little meadow with its lush grasses.
Riding time: Approx 3 1/2 - 4 hours
Day 2 Take your pick of day rides. Climb high to the top of Forellen Peak in Teton National Park and look down into Owl Canyon, or ride along Berry Creek to the shores of Jackson Lake if you like. Or for a more mellow day, venture to the top of Survey Peak for enormous mountain views. Riding time: All day
Day 3 We'll move to our next campsite in the Bitch Creek drainage - Hidden Corrals. While riding the ridge below Survey we'll look down into the headwaters of South Boone from a narrow, cliffy trail. From there we'll drop into Grizzly Creek, the north fork of Bitch Creek, Carrot Ridge to the south fork trail. Ride along the narrows to camp. There's plenty of feed and water for the horses, and for the daring, a few cold swimming holes. Try your hand at fishing in streams throughout the meadow.
Riding time: Approx 6 hrs
Day 4 Start off with a leisurely breakfast cooked over the camp fire. We'll day ride on a high and rocky trail that tops out at serene Camp Lake. Enjoy fishing or ride to even higher ground and picnic on a perch above the canyon. A number of day rides are available from this campsite. Riding time: All day
Day 5 We'll break camp, ride to the head of Bitch Creek, over Dead Horse Pass into the head of the Badger Canyon drainage. From here we've a couple of campsite choices, one being to a high camp behind the Crow's Nest or another about 3 miles down stream to our Badger site. Riding time: Approx. 5 hours
Day 6 Depending on which campsite we stay in, we'll enjoy either day riding to Rammel Mountain or to the ""Divide" between Teton Park and the Jedediah Smith Wilderness. Rammel Mountain, an easier day, offers some great high country and a beautiful view of the Tetons.
