A country of green
hills, hospitality and lovely melodies,
it is the land of King Arthur, converted
to Christianity by the Romans,
unconquered by the Normans and never
fully discovered by the "tourism army".
This area with its majestic mountains
and fertile valleys was in past times a
refuge for the Celts, while today it is
the home of the Welsh Cob, a tough
endurance-bred horse. These rides take
us deep into the unspoiled countryside,
passing small villages, castles and
monasteries, and then continue high up
into the Brecon Beacons while enjoying a
fascinating view over Mid-Whales'
mountains along the Irish Sea.

The
Turner family has been operating quality
horse-riding holidays since 1970. They
have developed a range of fully
inclusive trail-riding holidays suitable
for adult riders. Far from the madding
crowd, the impatience and pollution of
city life, hidden in the Black Mountains
of south-east Wales, find a friendly
greeting, a log fire, and a comfortable
bed, wholesome traditional fare, and a
trustworthy Welsh Cob to carry you to
the back of beyond. Whichever program
you decide upon, our skills and years of
experience will contribute to make your
holiday truly memorable.
The
Herd
We have a
herd of approximately 40 Welsh Cobs.
Most have lived on the farm since foals
and are selected for temperament and
character. Size ranges from 14 to 16
hands. Saddles are the very comfortable
endurance type.
The picture below shows some of our
excellent Welsh Cobs, one of which will
be ideal for you! |
Riding Skill:
It is not necessary to have a high technical
knowledge but an ability to ride in a balanced
manner is helpful to the horse and safer for the
rider. In general, rider fitness is the key to
comfort; the thrill of the adventure will always
justify the effort.
Clients: Most are adults of
average fitness in the 20 - 60 age range, but we can
find horses for teenagers as well as senior citizens
- the common interest being the love of the horse in
his true environment, the open countryside. Group
size is usually between four and nine riders.
Instruction: This will
include an introduction into the management of your
own horse for the duration of your holiday, as well
as lessons in horse psychology. We make sure you are
safely mounted and well suited to your equine
partner before we take to the hills! You will
quickly learn to trust both your horse and your
experienced guide.
Luggage: Client's bags, food
for the horses, etc. are all carried by vehicle from
one night-stop to the next. Two small bags are
better than one large bag, for our support crew to
lug in and out of vehicles. For fast riding we carry
minimum weight.
Accommodation: This depends
on which trail you ride. On some holidays, the
accommodation is at our comfortable farmhouse; on
others, time will be divided between the farmhouse
and the guest houses, inns and hotels located along
the route of the trail. Rooms are booked on a shared
twin basis, unless doubles or singles are specified
at time of booking. A single room supplement may be
payable for certain holidays.
Clothing: Warm comfortable
and wind-proof clothing is vital for mountain
riding. Riding boots, unless you are 'calf-hardened'
Stretch jods or tight fitting track suit (tights in
cold weather) Hard hat, fitting properly but not too
tightly. Cotton sweat shirt, Woollen sweater,
Wind-proof top. Gloves, Neck towel, Half or full
chaps optional. Casual wear for evening, slippers
and toiletries. Sun-blocking cream to protect your
face from the sun is also recommended.
